Course Description

Psychopharmacology is the analysis and study on the effects that medication has on the mind and brain in the treatment of mental disorders.

Included within the subject of psychopharmacology is the study of pharmacokinetics which is what medicine or pharmaceutical drugs does to the human body.

This actually includes the analysis leading to the understanding of how different medicines or medications interact, influence and affect each other.

Polymorphic genes which can differ considerably from each individual.

Half life which is the duration with which medicine, synthetic products and toxins including the effects remain in the human body or bloodstream. Protein binding, which means the availability of such and such medicines or pharmaceutical products are to the actual body.

As psychopharmacology is the study on the effects that medicine has on the human mind for the treatment of psychological or mental disorders and also to need to understand the basic areas of neuroscience, clinical medicine and the various terminologies, labeling and classification including the diagnosis of a many mental disorders.

Along with this is a need to build strong relationship and rapport with the patient. This course is the study of the subject and covers the overall basics herein.

This course text covers the advances in molecular pharmacology and the effects of pharmaceutical drugs on the brain and human behaviour. Generally covers neuroanatomy, various approaches within psychopharmacology, neurophysiology, synaptic transmission and the workings of brain receptors. Includes in-depth areas on drug, alcohol addiction and discusses various mechanisms of addiction and relevant theories in the diagnosis and treatment of related various mental disorders.
