Course Description

Promoting Equality Diploma Course

Working with Diversity and Difference!

What does equality and diversity mean?

These two words diversity and equality are often used interchangeably; however they are not the same.

Meaning:

Equality is about eliminating discrimination and prejudice and working for a fairer society where people can fulfill their full potential by creating equality for all.

By creating equality that is fair and diverse that society will be healthier and more content. In order to do this we have to make things, people and situations more accountable for their actions and behaviour by tackling discrimination from many angles especially on fairness that does goes past the radar.

This global situation is very bad. Ask anyone who is downtrodden on this for confirmation and they will often express heat and anger!

Segregation is vast across the workplace which includes lower paid workers in healthcare professions such as nursing, ancillary workers, labourers, administration especially males v female wage, minority ethnic groups and blacks all know this and experience putting up with this on a daily basis.

By introducing an equal opportunities approach we allow for better understanding as to who we all are, just that, who we all are within our social collective gatherings, categories such as skin colour, gender and race, disability and age, sexuality, religion, faith and class. Inequality in these areas affect us all in the end.

Just these injustices and equalities can affect emotion and well-being including work performance and how we interact with others in our daily lives. The impact is huge!

Meaning!

Diversity means that which is different. Diversity is difference.

When used in contrast to the above equality, it has to be about the recognition of both the individual and the specific group differences and it is essential to address, respect and treat all people as an individual and ensuring constructive and positive value is set in place within the community and throughout the workforce particularly around the education sector in schools, colleges and the medical profession and hospitals.

Even today employers will ignore applicants applying for places of work due to their differences such as background, religion and skin colour and get away with it because not enough is being done to educate and or help them.

Both group and individual diversity needs to be radically improved to ensure that each individual and their needs are respected and more importantly understood within the various sectors.

We all live in an increasing multicultural, mixed diverse society and we need to improve on areas of sensitivity, respect, and understanding to others ethnicity, disability, religion, sexuality class and age for young and old. People must be treated more fairly than they are as current.
