Course Description

Gender Identity Disorder Counselling

Also called Transgenderism Counselling

What is gender identity disorder? GID

Gender identity disorder (GID) or dysphoria is the official term used by psychologists and clinicians to categorise or describe persons who experience considerable dislike or unhappiness with their gender or the body that they were born in.

Most people with GID don’t need to be officially told or diagnosed that they are suffering from gender identity disorder or a strong dislike for the body they are in.

They know that really well and live every day of their life with a strong wish or desire to change their sex from man to woman or from woman to man.

To be officially diagnosed – a person who is experiencing GID or commonly now known as gender dysphoria, must demonstrate a persistent and strong cross gender identification issue that they are in the wrong body and that they wish to change sex and have a deep psychological and emotional reason to do so to be accepted for surgical treatment.

Like many subjects there are high levels of ignorance and lack of insight and understanding into the feelings of people who suffer from many issues.

It would be fair to say that most people with GID have experienced all manner of emotional turmoil in their life which can range from anger, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.

Most people who have GID have had suicidal thoughts due to the amount of conflicts and pain that they have battled with.

Very few have been on an easy road and a battle to get where they want to be which is into the other body and lifestyle to be accepted as that gender and not one that they were born with.

The preoccupation and disturbance of thought on this concern can cause all sorts of life changing issues and problems, may that be social, work, family, occupational and general everyday functioning in society with others, abuse, insults, rejection, discrimination, hate, ignorance and attacks.

This course provides an in depth look at gender identity disorder and what someone who is experiencing GID will go through to achieve their goals and change their sex.

This course is ideally suited to all types of therapists and counsellors.

It is also ideal for those non therapists currently going through gender identity disorder and or surgery and will help you understand the whole spectrum and differing angles of views in the medical profession, mental health, psychology and counselling perspectives along with others who have experienced the same.

This course provides an in-depth and comprehensive look into the clinical and theoretical sides of daily issues experienced by transgendered people along with their families and the suffering on both physical and mental health for all concerned

  • Looks at treatments, transgender emergence.
  • The construction of sex and gender.
  • Clinical perspectives.
  • Alternative treatment modalities.
  • Stimulating and in-depth case studies.

If you are experiencing gender identity disorder or considering even beginning male to female or female to male transition you may want to study this course, as it offers an overview on the whole area of transgender work, emergence, psychiatry, psychology and family therapy.

Most people who are experiencing GID do not need to be told by a psychiatrist that they are experiencing and suffering GID and to leave the session with a bottle of antidepressants and a feeling of another wasted day and further hopelessness with their ongoing battle and struggle to achieve transition and be listened to.

This course will help by bringing both the therapist and the individual in touch with the greater picture and how huge an area this is internationally. Offers a stimulating study in GID.

This course is two courses combined in ONE covering part A above GID and part B counselling.

The counselling part of this course pack is the actual counselling and psychotherapy course study that can be viewed here
