Course Description

Canine Myotherapy is a branch of manual medicine; which involves hand and fingertip massage focused on the treatment, recovery and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions such as skin problems, joints and tissue with the accompanying benefits of a simple relaxing dog massage.

Myotherapy is a form of manual therapy treatment for dogs.

Myotherapy is defined as a comprehensive assessment, management and treatment of neuromusculoskeletal disorders and conditions caused by improper biomechanical or defensive nervous system malfunctioning.

Or just simply dog massage, which is one subject your dog is going to absolutely love. At the most basic level, massaging dogs is performed to relax dogs and calm them down. Just five or ten minutes an evening massaging your dog will reduce stress levels and help you to relax also. Your dog will also come to realise when it’s time for their massage treat.

Canine massage, myotherapy is used for introducing help to assist in the recovery of injury with an operation after their return from a vet surgery and can also be used to ease aches and pain. There’s also the theory that by making hands-on contact with your dog’s muscle or skin conditions it will send information or signals to the dog’s nervous system to assist within the healing process.

Canine massage helps to establish a bond in trust and develop human to canine language communication.

This makes sense for various reasons such as the environment that the dog is in whilst receiving their massage which is a stimulating, calming and relaxing one and will help with the healing process along with gentle tones of voice, periods of quality time and the soothing touch of physical contact all contribute to a sense of safety and security including the nurturing aspect of development.

Environmental influences through evolution also play a part in creating negativity on canine development; their psychology and their nervous system are all influenced to the experiences of their surroundings.

Positive or negative surroundings and the environment will have an effect on the dogs health and wellbeing. Can this be proved? Probably not but many canine behaviourists, canine psychologists and canine whisperers will all agree at some level that there is a positive influence in the effect on healing, growth and development as a result of regular hands-on tactile massage.

This course will teach you all the basic techniques and methods of a relaxing and recuperating massage both for pleasure and medicinal reasons.

Upon completion of this course you will have a reasonable level of proficiency and knowledge in canine massage techniques.

Contains over 100 photographs and illustrations showing various treatments and diagnosis including detailed examinations of various joints, stress points and areas of muscular points to pay attention to and covers many areas of the dogs anatomy.

Includes all the basics, pressure points, pressure techniques, kinesiology massage movement, various massage routines including stretching and hydrotherapy methods and techniques.

This is an ideal course supplying you with a general all-round base knowledge if you have an intention of working with canines or starting a canine massage or related home business or practice.

Canine massage has an interesting history stemming back nearly 4000 years with evidence to show dogs are aware of their own internal pack need for self massaging and mutual massaging called allogrooming.

Often you will see dogs or in the wild such as wolves licking each others sores and open wounds or infections. It’s in the canines interest and its survival to at least make an attempt to assist each other no matter how small for the survival and progress of the canine or wolf packs. Otherwise why do they do it?

Massaging dogs mimics this evolutionary mutual pack healing activity hence the theory that massage does promote healing and recovery of the nervous system which includes joints, muscles and especially skin conditions to some extent.
