Course Description

ACT or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

ACT or Acceptance and commitment therapy is a type of clinical behavioural and analytical techniques often found in various types of psychotherapies.

ACT uses mindfulness strategies, acceptance with commitment, intervention techniques used to change unwanted negative human behaviour which in turn enhances your ability to gain more psychological flexibility.

Acceptance and commitment therapy was previously called comprehensive distancing therapy which was developed back in the late 1980s and took off in the early 90s.

ACT is a relatively new therapy in comparison to many others which allows you to understand better and get to know your unpleasant feelings and experiences and then learn not to interact or feed them, additionally you are taught not to avoid scenarios or experiences when these feelings or thoughts arise within your awareness. In other words you learn not to react to negative and painful feelings such as criticism, insecurity, inadequacy, anxiousness, fear feelings and so on.

Acceptance and commitment therapy will reduce stress, fear, depression, anxiety, alcohol and drug addictions, BPD also better known as borderline personality disorder along with many other emotional and psychological disturbances. This is actually a proven and effective treatment therapy for these symptoms and disorders and includes many strategies and techniques for accelerating ingrained behaviour change related to symptom reduction and/or removal.

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an amazing new tool that provides many neuro-linguistic solutions and techniques to bring change in yourself and in your clients.

ACT is different from other therapies such as CBT also known as cognitive behavioural therapy which is a therapy that teaches the client to control experiences, memories, intrusive and unwanted feelings and thoughts.

ACT actually teaches clients new programming to accept, and just quietly observe without feeding that which arises into their mental awareness. ACT shows you how to embrace internal thoughts and feeling activities which were previously unwanted intrusions so they become more accepted and less active.
