Course Description

Introduction

By soothing the physical symptoms and restoring emotional balance, therapists unlock frozen,  held-back energy associated with unresolved trauma.

The body’s natural intelligence takes over and the mind/body organizes and exits the animal defence responses and resolves them.

Instead of evacuating the PTSD energy, trance intervention allows the similar natural dissipation of symptoms as would happen with the discharge phase of the orienting response in combat.

Somatic therapy currently enjoys a broad appeal in the area of stress reduction and trauma resolution, health enhancement, and performance improvement. There are many popular therapies that appeal to the body in an attempt to resolve unconscious emotional trauma.

Neurobiological research has shown that the body’s internal chemical and electrochemical environment is related to sensory input and motor and biological processes in the nervous system that affect sensory input from our environment.

Somatic therapy is holistic in that it takes the view that the mind and body are not separate, but are a part of a complex, interconnected system. Neurobiological research has shown that the body’s internal chemical and electrochemical environment is related to sensory input and motor activity.

This research occurred when physicians began to notice a direct correlation between patients with muscle tension, high blood pressure, and other stress-related symptoms, and those who also experienced high anxiety.

Somatic therapy is holistic in that it takes the view that the mind and body are not separate, but are a part of a complex, interconnected system.

Somatic therapy, a hands-on approach, is an increasingly popular adjunct to traditional psychotherapy. In recent years, somatic therapy has been incorporated into psychological treatment.

An experiential therapy or body-centered therapy, somatic therapy can be a stand-alone therapeutic approach.

Each aspect of the integrative approach is therapeutic bodywork. Although these approaches could be helpful in processing therapeutic matters, a trained psychotherapist should supervise the material that comes up out of an integrative body therapy session.

Psychotherapists are dealing with the body in traditional forms of therapy as well.
