Course Description

What is spiritual counselling?

Introduction

Traditional counselling offers advice and guidance for psychological and emotional support to an individual, family or group.

Spiritual counselling offers advice and guidance for psychological and emotional support incorporating spiritual principles or beliefs.

Sometimes spiritual counselling may be neutral or free of a specific religion and incorporates all faiths, beliefs and religions under the title of that particular spiritual counselling service or counsellor.

In general most counselling that involves a spiritual approach on the whole is healthy and beneficial to the client and are often non-denominational or that they do not introduce philosophies or beliefs of their own or others religious or spiritual practices.

However there are some spiritual counselling practices or spiritual counsellors usually private and off the beaten track that will actually do more harm than good to some vulnerable people and that they will introduce or impose their own religion, beliefs, practices onto their client.

In traditional non-spiritual counselling this is very rare but in spiritual counselling it is more common and must be avoided at all costs.

Those counsellors who may be working privately or individually most often do have good intentions in mind and that there is generally nothing sinister about their wish for their clients to start seeing things in the counsellors religious or spiritual light, however this converting attempt goes against the deep grain of counselling and should never occur but it does.

This course in spiritual counselling aims to educate student on this and clear the way of myths and delusions to make better an understanding of how spiritual counselling should be for all concerned in a healthy supportive service.

This course provides many spiritual aspects to counselling and is an essential part of the Person centred therapy involved in helping the client to heal past wounds.

This diploma awarded course in spiritual counselling will bring the student up-to-date with spiritual approach to counselling and can be easily incorporated into any therapists or beginners Christian or religious beliefs.

This training course is open to complete beginners/ novice and is ideally suited first and foremost to therapists, counsellors and psychotherapists who are currently practicing person centred counselling and psychotherapy and require insight into the wider spiritual community and therapy required for clients who base their thinking and feelings around their own specific religious practice.

This course would act as an ideal add-on or bolt on to any therapist or counsellor’s current portfolio of qualifications.
