Course Description

Laughter therapy has been around for a few years but is still relatively new.

Other names for laughter therapy are called giggle therapy or humour therapy and its main purpose is to increase the flow of good brain chemistry chemicals such as endorphin’s or serotonin or in other words to promote happiness and well-being resulting in a reduction in stress or stress-related symptoms such as depression and anxiousness and emotional tension.

When we laugh, when we really laugh there is actually a physiological change taking place in both the body and mind and consequently the brain or the other way around.

If someone is seriously depressed and on medication then no amount of laughing is going to change that depression the same as eating certain foods which are rich in nutrients that promote the production of the brain chemicals like serotonin which will also NOT change that depression.

The point being eating bananas will not change someone’s depression and would be considered ridiculous from the point of view of someone suffering from serious depression or because eating bananas produces more serotonin, people who don’t suffer from depression might feel comfortable in proceeding with the belief that because bananas produces more serotonin then it has to follow that depression will be reduced simply because serotonin levels are incredibly low in people suffering from depression.

The point being made here is that there is a line and if it’s crossed such as extreme anxiety or depression then no amount of laughing or laughter therapy is going to change that, therefore laughter or humour therapy will only work for some people who need a lift or a pick me up and there are millions of people who do.

Yes, laughter therapy is very effective in people who are not suffering from deep-rooted psychological problems and emotional disorders.

Just setting the record straight about what can be achieved with laughter therapy.

If you are not suffering from any serious mental health, psychological and emotional problems and were looking for a lift in your well-being then laughter therapy will work.

After an hour or so of laughter therapy especially in a group of people, there is a tremendous release of pent-up emotion and tension and the people who leave the group often report feelings of walking on air floating or on a cloud.

Sometimes the opposite is true similar to going to the cinema and viewing a horror movie which results in leaving something behind which could easily be explained within exposure therapy such as confronting the negatives inside you like fears and anxieties.

People who engage in laughter therapy or set up a group that meet once a week to experience an increase in well-being bring more happiness and relaxation into their lives.

It must be stressed that laughter therapy is different, it is different from other therapies and it doesn’t replace all the therapeutic interventions and approaches but what it will do is aid you in your recovery from symptoms such as anxiety and depression, tension and stress and worry. All these will certainly be reduced with regular weekly sessions of laughter therapy.

If you’re a therapist or a people person you may find this course and ideal platform for starting up a local group in your community or amongst people who like to get together once a week for a session in laughter.

Does that not sound funny? Going for a session of laughter!

Just the idea makes you want to chuckle especially standing in front of other like-minded people in group all chuckling and laughing together for no reason.

This course will provide you with all the techniques you need to start up and run a laughter therapy class or room. The course doesn’t cover actually starting up a business as that’s something you would do yourself based on your own background experience in your ability to put something together. What the course will do is show you how to do laughter therapy, how to actually put the techniques into place and make it all happen.

In India there are various yogic therapies which involve followers of a Guru entering into a room and then with closed doors they engage in screaming, roaring and shouting and punching and crying into cushions and rolling all over the floor shaking out all the tension until they are exhausted.

This is a way of releasing lots of negative energy which is contained in and around everyone’s body and mind.

Unknown to you, you are carrying an amount of negative and tension-based energy.

Even a deep profound all over body massage can produce the same emotional release and some people will become emotional or cry during or after a therapy massage.

Anything that releases the pressure and tension is beneficial to your well-being and overall health.

Once released, your mind will detect that you must be in an environment which is now a safe and relaxing one thus the brain will start to produce nicer well-being chemicals as opposed to stress releasing chemicals.

If the brain or mind detects and identifies that the environment you are in is a dangerous and threatening one then your mind via your body will produce stress-related chemicals which are associated to the fight or flight process.

And the opposite is true if you’re in a relaxing safe environment. This is why certain practices and therapies such as laughter therapy, body massage therapy, meditation and especially Autogenics and the Alexander technique are all first-class therapies and practices for putting yourself into an environment which is safe and relaxing, as far as the unconscious mind is concerned this is what we need to do in this stressful, ugly suffering and hurtful world.

By learning to laugh more spontaneously to situations which would previously pull you down, you will be freeing yourself the same has learning how to laugh at yourself and the pain and suffering you have experienced.

This change in perspective will certainly change the ground you stand on and the landscape and the horizon in front of you will change.
This course is open to anyone with without any background training. This course is ideally suited to therapists and is also open to complete beginners or anyone interested in trying new ways to change negativity into positive and happiness.

There are no entry requirements this course however certain amount of ‘positive’ and optimism is essential. If you are suffering from depression or serious emotional or mental disorders then laughter therapy will not remove these, it may help in some ways however anyone is welcome to try.

Go see for yourself. It works well!
