Course Description

Irritable bowel syndrome or IBS is a very common disorder affecting around one in five of the UK population.

Irritable bowel syndrome is a disorder of the bowel or the gut. For some it can be anxiously very embarrassing as in extreme cases it can catch people very short with an urgent need for the loo.

Sometimes there is a rush to get to the toilet when there is actually no need to go, just a feeling or pain indicating you need to go. Other symptoms can include bloating, constipation, pain and bouts of diarrhoea. Other associated symptoms also as unpleasant as the above are flatulence, belching nausea or stomach sickness and headaches along with muscle aches and pains.

There are many theories and ideas around various treatments, some work some don’t. Medication as prescribed by your local GP is the most common. There are many other treatments including complimentary, alternative therapies in one form or another. Many people engage in lifestyle changes especially diet & nutrition alterations and the removal of certain types of food from the diet.

For some stress and anxiety can exacerbate or make the IBS even worse so for some, relaxation and anti-stress practices are of interest.

This course offers you a basic and yet comprehensive overview of the many varied views in general research findings on IBS and its treatments. This course is presented in an easy to follow interesting way.

Provides various approaches and strategies on how to better deal with the symptoms of IBS and techniques and strategies for handling the condition, physically, mentally and psychologically.

This course provides invaluable insights into the subject and treatment approaches to IBS and would be ideally suited to all kinds of therapists that may encounter clients with irritable bowel syndrome or related symptoms. This course is also ideal for complete beginners or even sufferers of IBS themselves. You don’t need to be a counselling therapist or practicing consultant to undertake this course.

Enrolment is open and on-going all year round and anyone is welcome to enrol with or without any background training or experience.
