Course Description

Dominance in Dogs Studies Diploma Course

The view of dominance in dogs carries many myths and inaccuracies – presented as theory.

Let’s be fair, most dog owners haven’t a real understanding or grasp of canine psychology especially dominance and what it’s all about and this surprisingly does include some dog trainers who base their training on not allowing dogs to be dominant in case that encourages them to grow as leader over the owner or trainer.

Although both dog trainers and dog owners are well-meaning and have the best intentions at heart, their training and understanding of canine behaviour is often built on the wrong information.

Some people will treat their dog in the most appalling ways and it’s not the dog’s problem it is the owner’s problem outright.

It is the owner’s responsibility for the animal to be understood and trained correctly and that includes understanding its needs and its mind.

Poor treatment bestowed on dogs by owners is astronomical and neither the owner nor the dog has got a clue to what’s taking place, when it’s been smacked, kicked or belted for doing something it shouldn’t have done, in the owners view of course.

You often see dog owners pulling dogs in all directions along the street and the dogs pulling the owners in all directions and neither knows what’s taking place.

This dominance in dog studies course will help change that by re-educating both dog trainers and dog owners.

One of the many myths is that all dogs are domesticated wolves and carry the traits of wolves into the domesticated dog pack.

There are rules within the canine world about the dog and the owner must be taught them to produce a better relationship and co-operative partnership with each other.

Within a pack of dogs there will often be the dominant dog which will take the lead position in the pack – and by the way, that includes you, the dog owner.

You as the dog owner must establish yourself as the pack leader so that both you and your dominant alpha dog understand each other clearly.

If you as the owner of the dog are erratic or unstable with a lot of hand gestures and large arm movements and loud verbal’s, your dog will not correctly follow you, as dogs need to follow more balanced and directed behaviour or energy with assertive ways.

You must have good energy about you and understand the dogs needs otherwise you will be constantly battling with the animal.

Anxiousness or insecurity and uncertainty will be picked up by a dog which will be interpreted as a prompt or a trigger for the dog to take control or to take the lead as they they will naturally sense the need to protect the pack. They will take that leading role which is instinctive for them to do so to look out for the pack for its survival and protection the same has dog barking is a way of warning all concerned of an approaching intruder or predator to the pack or lair.

The more direct and assertive you are the less need the dog will need to intervene or take the lead because your actions will be recognised as pack leader. It is so super simple.

In the pack the dominant dogs are more detached and independent as they are the leaders with followers that follow them.

The leaders in the pack don’t go to the followers, it’s actually the followers that approach the leaders and this could be said of the same in the human world. Again simple psychology!

Alpha or leader dogs are generally less affectionate or less attention seeking which is part of the dog’s role of being a leader or an alpha; almost head up, strong and silent type!

To approach your non-affectionate less than expected loving dominant dog to give it some sort of attention or loving affection will just reinforce the alpha dog’s role to be even more of a leader or more dominant in the pack and again that includes you.

You should ignore the alpha dog and you will find when they want affection or attention they will come to you in their own time which will in turn reinforce your position as the leader of the pack for them doing so.

By being aware of this, by being vigilant of this you are in effect reversing the psychology and this is the way you communicate with your dog. This is the language you must learn not the language of human words.

This course will dispel the myths that dogs are not domesticated wolves trying to take our lives over if given half a chance.

You do not try to dominate a dominant dog with domination you work to lead it to follow you as the stronger pack leader.

This course will teach you about the many common misunderstandings between dog and dog owner based on faulty views of dominance.

This course in dominance studies is ideal for anyone working with dogs such as dog trainers or dog owners.

This course will provide you with great food for thought and open your mind into the needs and roles of dogs.
