Course Description

First aid for dogs at home and away

Helping you to keep your dog safe from harm and danger and enhancing your dog’s quality of life.

Not acquiring knowledge and undertaking a basic first aid course on first aid for canines is like not insuring your home and valuables against unforeseen or unexpected circumstances such as an emergency. The same can be said for not having or lacking in knowledge on first aid for dogs and what to do in an emergency.

It just goes without saying that an unexpected emergency can occur at any time with dogs the same as it can occur with children often due to the inquisitiveness of going into things and places that carry hazards.

An example of unexpected danger and harm would be choking on a piece of bone which a dog has picked up off the ground. It is now common knowledge that all veterinary surgeons will advise ALL dog owners to never give ANY dog a bone irrespective of how many textbooks advice on raw nutrition and raw bones diets.

Pieces of bone can do and will break off and can stick in the oesophagus, stomach and intestinal walls and can lead to death or internal bleeding.

Please contact us and let us know of any UK VETS that recommend and advice that it is OK to give a dog a bone, cooked or raw. There are none, as most VETS have had to remove them from dogs stomachs and intestines due to penetration. Please let us know otherwise.

Other areas of concerns are dogs can pick up nasty parasites and bites from deep undergrowth or long grasses, additionally breaking legs after falling down hidden holes whilst running and receiving an injury leading to excessive bleeding.

Undertaking a first aid course for dogs is essential the same as it is in taking out yearly insurance cover on your dog.

Dog owners who are just not prepared for unexpected eventualities and emergencies often panic in situations of danger, threat and even near death situations that can arise. This course will help you prepare for the circumstances so that you know what to do in an emergency instead of yelling for others to hope they can assist you. Just one injury to your dog or cat can result in repeat visits to your veterinary clinic for treatment.

Stopping problems in their tracks before they get worse is the aim of the knowledge in this course which you can acquire easily within a few weeks.

The sole aim of this course is to provide dog owners with a basic first aid course which includes easy to follow instructions starting with every day simple incidents such as sprained paws or injured legs to cuts, sores, infections, bruises and general ailments up to more serious situations such as electric shocks, injury from spilled scalding water, spills onto the skin from open containers containing chemicals such as paints or DIY and home cleaning products. All these can cause every day visits to the local vet for immediate veterinary treatment. Many but not all of these can be managed by a well-informed and prepared owners.

Starting off covering important techniques such as treating and bandaging dogs legs due to the high risk of injury.

The identification of certain symptoms such as bone breaks or fractures as opposed to thinking that the dog has just bruised itself. Being able to identify heatstroke or overheating along with muscular injuries and/or soft tissue damage, stings, parasites and even grass snake bites which are common in the UK. The general management of skin damage such as cuts and grazes or even cat scratches and other dog bites from common dog attacks in the park or street.
