Course Description

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is most commonly used specifically in the treatment of severely suicidal clients and the like with a condition called BPD borderline personality disorder and other extreme challenging behaviours that need addressing. This course guides the clinician or therapist through this process of working with such mental disturbances.

Dialectical behaviour therapy can be used to treat a wide range of symptoms including emotional instability otherwise known as dysregulation, distorted and disturbed patterns of thinking and perception also otherwise known as cognitive distortions, irrational and impulsive behaviours including the area of unstable relationships which can include intense behaviours around clinging, possessiveness, jealousy insecurities and a morbid profound fear of abandonment.

Covers mindfulness, CBT cognitive approaches, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.

Explains shifting thoughts, problem-solving, building routines, developing boundaries.

Offers an easy to follow step-by-step straightforward explanations. An ideal therapeutic add-on for dealing with the more extreme and troublesome conditions and psychological problems in the areas outlined above.

This course is open to anyone to enrol such as students, trainees and fully qualified therapists such as psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists and any mental health care workers.

The course is also open to the complete novice or anyone interested in learning more about dialectical behaviour therapy. No background qualifications or experience is required to take this course.
